I was beaten up at school by 5 asian guys and they gave me a black and swollen eye and several cuts and grazes. these injuries haven't fazed me much but there is a redness in my eye which is quite worrying. it started off as a small red bloodshot looking patch in the corner of my eye but as the days have gone by it has slowly spread. My girlfriend looked it up for me and she mentioned something (it began with s :S) which said that if the redness spreads to my pupil I could lose vision. is this true? and if so is it temporary or permanent loss of vision? the redness, last time I checked, was less than half a millimeter away from the colored bit in the centre of my eye. as I was playing my iPod just then my eye began to blur slightly as though excess moisture was on it, but my vision has always been really good so I don't know how to describe a change in it. any help or reassurance at all would be highly useful. thanks :).

Usually when an eye injury is serious, it closes as a protective reflex and you practically have to hold the eyelids apart to see what damage has been done. The eye is also the quickest healing part of the body. My advice is, if you can keep the eye open easily and your vision has not been diminished, then it's probably not serious. The red in the eye is from blood that leaked from a broken vessel. It will fade to pink, then yellow and then disappear all together. If you wake up in the morning with the eye stuck shut with goop, then you've developed an eye infection and you should go to the doctor. Wait it out, unless you develop any type of visual problem. But if it's bothering you and you are worrying about it to a certain point where you feel like there could be a serious problem, go see your doctor right away. Even if it is just for peace of mind. You shouldn't have to worry about possibly losing your vision because once it's gone, it's gone.

Okay, first off, how the heck did you get so many answers?!? Anyway... I think that 14-15 would be a good age, 'cause that would make him a freshman, so that adds to the whole idea of everyone else being bigger and more able to beat him up. I think that your list of injuries sounds pretty good, but I think that just may want to add a cracked rib or two. In your fight scene, you mention him being kicked in the ribs, and besides, cracked ribs only take about a week/ week and a half to heal, but they hurt like heck. When the teacher finds him, maybe the teacher could have been going out back during a free period to smoke a cigarette or something else that it frowned upon. The teacher could hear him moaning, or just stumble across him. When he's found in that condition, the first thing that the teacher would do is pull out a cell and call for help. Then, you could have him be pretty out of it for this bit so that you won't have as much detail to go into. Say that the teacher is standing over him, checking how bad he's hurt or something. Suddenly there are sirens and more people standing over him, etc... I've written a scene that's actually very similar to this, and I've found that having him slip in and out of consciousness works really well for this kind of thing. About the brother, I think his brother should be worried about him, but he won't actually tell his brother what's going on. His brother should find out in the end though, and help him through it. I'm really interested in your story. Like I said before, email me if you ever want someone to look over it, or to compare fight scenes with, lol. :)

"if the redness spreads to my pupil I could lose vision. is this true?"

NO.

That's a bunch of nonsense. What you have is what doctors call a sub-conjunctival hematoma or minor sub-conjunctival hemorrhage.

Some blood has leaked out from the capillaries of the mucous membrane covering the front of your eyeball. This membrane, the conjunctiva, stops at the limbus, the edge of the transparent cornea... so it cannot affect your vision.

Stop worrying: you are in no danger! Heck, people get these "bloodshot eyes" from a bad cough at times.

considering a patch on your eye, yes, because if you really didn't put of a fight, then you could be considering as a pussy, and it could keep hapening for entertainment, or instead, if you try to put up a fight and beat up a few, they could come back and maybe kill you, hope they ain't that bad, but if you also try to tell, then you can be called as a narc, which means snitch, and you could get killed or beat up more for snitching, so in the end your **** out of luck, but my personal natural instinct would be to fight back, and if you knock out a few, then they will know your not that easy anymore, so they usually leave you a lone from my experience, but again if it gets so bad it never stops no matter what you do, then i would go to the authorities, or maybe even go to them now if you feel like you need to, follow your gut man, what do you think you should do?

Go see your doctor! He will be able to either tell you what it is, or send you to a optimologist (sp). On a different note, I hope someone has happened about the violence at your school. Whether it was an isolated incident or has to do with bullies, it should be investigated by your school administration! Good luck.

sorry to hear that you were beaten up, i have no idea what the condition is called but the best thing to do is see a doctor, even if people here answer your question about how similar it is etc, its always best to have it checked up as many diseases or injuries can have the same symptoms but can lead to different long term outcomes. Without actually looking no one here can tell not even doctors here answering your question.

Hope i have helped :D
