You can doze, whilst standing ,

but should you really fall asleep, you would fall down ,

LoL!

and wake yourself up .!!

Unless of course ,you were propped up by two good friends ;

on your way back home ,after a good night out---- LOL

you may be 'sleep walking !'

Usually ,

you will have already, been asleep in bed ,

before you get up --to sleep walk --

you may even walk back to bed , whilst still asleep

Me and my friend both fell asleep whilst standing up, leaning against each other, so I guess the answer is yes.

It was common practice for the poor to sleep standing up, during the Victorian age and in fact before. You may have heard old people using the phase 'I could sleep on a wire!' or 'on a washing line' , well this has its origins in truth. If you could not afford a bed, you could pay to lean against a line of rope. Picture Number 14

I've seen my father keel over at least four times from standing around when he's too tired. He sways, his eyes close, and he'll stand perfectly still for about two mintues. All is peaceful... Then WHAM! Face in carpet. So I'd guess yes, it is possible.

You can certainly doze off for a while stood up but not fully sleep.

Your body wont let you, it needs you legs to be moving to pump the blood back up into your heart. After a while it will recognise the shortage of blood and will wake you or make you faint and drop to the floor to help the blood circulate.

a friend of mine told me he had a friend who could sleep with his eyes open, so standing up may be possible.
