I'm 32 and have always had a pillow case that i rub the end of my nose with. this has a very soothing effect upon me and will continue to do it. I also suck my thumb at times of extreme stress. I used to feel bad about it but now i don't everyone finds something to help them cope with life whether it's thumb sucking, smoking, drinking if it makes you feel better then why stop and yes it makes me feel tired

Its perfectly normal, its called oral fixation. I have it only I don't suck my thumb I have pacifiers.

i sucked my thumb regularly until i was 15, and will still sometimes if i'm really upset about something. its really not a big deal, you could be doing something much worse. i think it is comforting and soothing. if you feel like you need to stop, you could try doing something else that you find to be soothing, but if you're not bothered by it than who cares?

IT is great. everyone has their addiction and thumb sucking is not illegal. I even Know someone who still sucks their thumb!

My daughter is 30 and STILL sucks her thumb!!!!!! We (and her long term partner) just ignore her or tease her gently. She doesnt do it at work (but has been seen doing it whilst driving) she does it when she is tired or unwell.

she's 22 years old, and she does it as a comfort thing also. she has this little blanket too that the lining has started to tear, and she rubs it on her nose and lips too. i just think its kind of funny that i saw this question, knowing my friend does the same thing.



i don't think it's weird at all, besides, we're all a bit quirky ;)

yes I am an adult thumb-sucker as well, I do it in public, usually for mischief, I cannot figure out why people are interested but some of them are and will stare long and hard in a way that they would not for nail biting. you know everybody has a habit and thumb sucking I feel is harmless. Yea I do it also but only at night also. So what as long as you are comfortable and the comments that are made by the readers here. I bet you have a more disgusting habit then this one. So I wouldn't say anything to the people that have this habit.

I suck my thumb and I'm a lot older than you. As it turns out, though, there's TONS of adult thumb suckers out there. I've found this out because, indulging publicly as I do, they've admitted it to me many times.



I've also seen adult thumb suckers many, many times over the year, all while driving.



Perhaps you should consider its many benefits. It's legal, very available, doesn't interfere with others like smoking does, effective for concentration and getting to sleep fast, calms you down instantly, doesn't ruin your health (at least for the great majority of us), and more.



So, for all you out there who think it's only for crazies, babies or what-nots, well, you probably know one yourself.

Thump sucking is a way of soothing one's self. It's way better than drinking or doing drugs to 'relax'. There's nothing wrong with it.

Do you have buck teeth as a result? I've heard thumb sucking does that. But, no, I don't understand thumb sucking adults. I would think it has something to do with insecurity or maybe a problem with your parents. It would be interesting to go to a counselor and see what they think

I've never heard of this. And whats up with the rubbing ribbon on your nose and lips? I would try to stop the thumb sucking. It will more then likely lead to buck teeth where you will need braces. Most kids who do this for several years, end up needing years of braces to fix overbite. Aleast thats what my brother and cousin needed.
