How does a person get stoned?

Somebody said that my friend got stoned, and I was just wondering if that means that you smoked marijuana or something and got high?
Like how do people even get stoned.

Nowadays getting "stoned", does mean to smoke a large amount of Marijuana, get high, and be silly.

Being ''Stoned'' means a whole bunch of people (not nescarily) brutally throwing rocks at one person as a punishment. It often leads to death along time ago but now its used just to temporarily hurt somebody physically.
