Butterfly needles are usually 23 gauge needles, with two plastic 'wings' on either side, flexible tubing, and another needle, generally sheathed with some sort of rubber like material at the other end.

If memory serves, I believe it is 24G. However, it has been a long time since most hospitals used butterflies, except in pedi, ICU, or other specialty areas like lab. Could be 23G
