Sometimes when I take a drag of a cigarette it leaves a sweet taste in my mouth. It happens with different brands of cigarettes too. Why is that?

When a person smokes tobacco in a cigarette, cigar or pipe, the first thing that the smoker experiences is a sweet taste on his or her tongue. This is the most appealing thing about smoking for most smokers. Cigar and pipe smokers often describe the flavors of their favorite brands with words like "nutty", "coffee", "spice", "butterscotch", "chocolate" or "earthy". If you need further proof of tis, and have the nerve to do it, try placing a tiny dab of real tar on th tip of your tongue with your fingertip. You will find that it tastes nothing like tobacco "tar". Then try a teaspoon full of brown sugar or molasses. Brown sugar (which is white table sugar mixed with molasses) or molasses is chemically almost the same tobacco "tar", and the similarity in taste will be immediately obvious. If your taste buds are very sensitive, you will notice that tobacco "tar" is a little bitter compared with molasses. That's because there is a little more alcohol in tobacco "tar" than in molasses.

I have had this happen being a smoker myself. I think it has alot to do with what you eat or drink before you smoke. I have also heard that it is the tobacco companies adding sugar. The craziest experience I have had with this one Halloween I spray painted my beard and fumes gassed my mouth, nose, everything. All night long my cigarettes tasted like pure sugar. My friend and I discussed this and he came up with the idea of sensory overload. That because my senses were overwhelmed with paint my tastebuds picked up the sweetness of the cigarette. I dont know for certain what causes this but I like you would love to know. Hope this helps.

All of these responses are bullshit. I think I understand where the original poster was coming from. I've been sitting in my garage for the past 2 hours drinking beer and smoking cigarettes. nothing out of ordinary for me. All the sudden I light up a cigarette from an open pack and it tastes very sweet on the first drag. Then the second drag is still sweet. Then the third drag is still sweet. Then I put it out flick the Cherry off and it still tastes sweet. I've had the same experience numerous times and wants an explanation. Don't give me the same crap that I've found on the internet where your taste buds and what you eat and yada yada yada. I just want to know why one cigarette in particular in a pack taste very sweet and leaves a sweet film ish thing on your tongue.
